Dirty Dry Shampoo

Woman's Hair in Top Knot
Let’s face it: some days it’s too much effort to shower, condition, blow dry, and style our hair. Actually, that’s most days unless you’re constantly hitting the blowout bar down the street. Enter dry shampoo. It’s a life saver, instant-lifter, and goddess of cleansing 5-day unwashed manes. While your drug store can of mystery ingredients may help you in a pinch on the way to the office, it’s NOT helping your body or the environment!

Your scalp is 5-10 times more absorbent than other parts of your body, which also reads as: be careful with your haircare. In fact, some there’s a plethora of products out there claiming to be dry shampoo when they are in fact nothing more than synthetic chemicals aching to destroy your scalp. Here are some of the questionable at best/toxic at worst ingredients hiding in your dry shampoo:

  • Liquid Petroleum Gas (Butane, Propane, Isobutane): HUGE environmental no-no! Your spray dry shampoo is propelled from the can using an aerosol chemical reaction, and is incredibly damaging to our ozone layer.
  • Talc: Talcum powder has been linked to cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. Any more questions?
  • Phenoxyethanol: This ant-bacterial chemical can be found in nature, but many dry shampoo brands manufacture synthetic versions that are linked to reproductive issues and cancer.
  • Fragrance: We’ve harped on it before, and we’ll harp on it again. Fragrance is just an unregulated term that could mean virtually anything. Bundles of synthetic chemicals can make their way into your favorite consumer good product under the guise of “fragrance.” Watch out.

So swap it out!
