Q for Quinn - Your top drawer shouldn’t be full of harmful toxins.
"What inspired you to start QforQuinn, and how did your journey shape the vision and values behind your brand?”
Hi, I’m Melita, and I started Q for Quinn when I couldn’t find socks gentle enough for my son, who suffered from eczema. After researching, I was shocked to discover that 90% of baby and kids' socks contained harmful chemicals like BPA and parabens. Concerned about the toxins in kids' clothing, I knew there had to be a safer, more sustainable alternative. This led me to create organic, chemical-free clothing that was better for families and the planet. Our journey has always been about more than just selling clothes; it’s about creating a positive impact. That’s why, after building Q for Quinn as a source for safe, sustainable basics for kids, we expanded to Basics by Quinn—a collection of eco-conscious essentials for adults.
"Why is organic and sustainable clothing important to you, and how do you ensure your products meet these standards?”
Organic and sustainable clothing is important to me because it aligns with my personal values as a parent and as a business owner. I believe in protecting the health of our families, and that means ensuring that the products we wear are free from harmful chemicals that can affect our skin, our health, and ultimately our environment.
Organic cotton and merino wool are natural, biodegradable fibers that don’t require toxic pesticides or synthetic fertilizers to grow, which makes them a more eco-friendly choice. Additionally, the farms that grow them often prioritize soil health and biodiversity, which has a positive ripple effect on the planet.
To ensure our products meet these standards, we’ve gone above and beyond to establish a certified, transparent supply chain. All of our cotton is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified, and our merino wool is RWS (The Responsible Wool Standard), and we work exclusively with family-owned, ethically-operated factories that share our commitment to fair labor practices and environmental responsibility. Our products are free from harmful dyes, chemicals, and synthetic fibers, and we make sure that every item is traceable, so our customers can trust that what they’re wearing is truly organic and safe.
"What advice do you have for parents and individuals seeking to live more consciously, particularly when choosing everyday essentials like skincare and clothing?”
Living consciously starts with small, everyday choices—whether it's what we wear or put on our skin. My advice is to be mindful of the materials and ingredients in the products you use. Choose natural, organic fibers like cotton, wool, and linen, and support brands that prioritize transparency and sustainability.
When it comes to skincare, keep an eye on labels and aim for natural, toxin-free options whenever possible. Just as with clothing, what we put on our skin is absorbed by our bodies, and the fewer chemicals and synthetic ingredients, the better.
The key is quality over quantity—invest in fewer, better-made items that will last longer and positively impact your health and the environment. Every small change, whether it’s choosing organic clothing, opting for cleaner skincare products or supporting ethical brands, adds up. The more we prioritize our health, our families, and the planet, the greater the impact we can have on creating a sustainable future.
