Clean Out Your Shampoo
Lather. Rinse. Repeat…every few days or so. This is the mantra of shampoo. Look, we all want clean hair, right? Enter shampoo. It comes in boundless bottles, scents, colors, and purposes. It can leave you with a luxe mane and that good clean feeling. But depending on your shampoo, you might just be giving your locks a sudsy chemical bath. Plenty of shampoo brands are packed with sulfates, parabens, and phthalates that not only can damage your hair, but the environment too.
AVOID AVOID AVOID
Polyethylene Glycols (PEG)– a thickening agent and byproduct of the petroleum industry. It is often contaminated with other chemicals like ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxide which have been shown to cause severe liver and kidney damage
Dimethicone – a plastic chemical that you can thank for that “shiny” hair look. It binds to your hair and coats it with a layer of silicone, which blocks your locks from receiving moisture and nutrients. Instead, it causes a buildup of grease and dirt.
Sodium Chloride – for those who don’t remember high school chemistry, sodium chloride is salt. But salt on your scalp? It can cause irritation and dry scalp, and no one wants those skin snowflakes falling on their shoulders.
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate – this sulfate is a powerful detergent that strips your hair of oil, dirt, and ultimately moisture, which can damage your hair and cause brittle strands.
Swap out your harsh shampoo for one that contains ZERO sulfates, parabens, PEGs, chemical preservatives or fragrances – AKA Sisters Balancing Shampoo!
